Guido Mine

Kopalnia Guido Zabrze Polska May Tango Festival

Guido Mine

For Sunday’s Farewell Milonga we will go as far as 320 meters underground.

The pride of Zabrze – Guido Mine – Historic Coal Mine!

And in it- two halls. The concert hall and the Pump Hall.
Two halls and two parts of the milonga.
In the main hall – the Research chamber No. 8 – a traditional milonga, in the Compressor Chamber  – under a starry sky of industrial lamps – a nuevove ending of the festival.
And to top it off-  in the Pump Hall a bar and bistro aptly named Level 320!

Research chamber No. 8 – traditional milonga

320m underground

Chamber height: 4.5m-6.5m

Area: 192 m2 (8m x 24m)

ONCE

The name refers to the mine’s operations in the 1970s. Its underground then operated as the M300 Experimental Experimental Mine, enabling the testing of new mining machines and mining techniques.

TODAY

Intimate lighting and excellent acoustic conditions perfectly meet the requirements of both a concert hall and an underground theater. The chamber is equipped with a bar, a cloakroom, a back room and a sliding tribune on the upper mezzanine with 88 seats. A unique space for organizing the most avant-garde events. Jazz concerts, theater performances and even the International Festival take place here. Krzysztof Penderecki – level 320 in Zabrze.

Compressor Chamber – milonga nuevo

320m underground

Height: 5.4-5.7m

Area: 248m2 (8m x 31m)

ONCE

A chamber with a brick casing, hollowed out in the first half of the 20th century. It contained powerful mining machines: a compressor from 1914, made in Germany, and an air compressor from 1965, made in Poland, which are still located in the chamber today. Compressed air powered the mining machines that enabled work at this depth.

TODAY

Thanks to the preserved mining machinery, the chamber maintains the status of the most industrial banquet hall in the mine. The elements that enhance the atmosphere of the place are steel benches pulled straight from the wall and dozens of mining incandescent lamps. The room is equipped with extensive catering facilities.

Hala Pomp, or PUB

320m underground

Height: 4.6m

Area: 164.5 m2

ONCE

In its original version, the Pump Hall protected the mine against flooding. Powerful pumps pumped hectoliters of water to the surface, which allowed miners to continue underground work. The Pump Hall was built in the second half of the 19th century and is still characterized by exceptional visual and spatial aesthetics.

TODAY

Hala Pomp is the lowest underground pub in Europe. It is a unique meeting place and a well-equipped bar with the most characteristic atmosphere in this part of the world and a location that, for obvious reasons, cannot be imitated. The unique atmosphere is also guaranteed by the raw mine décor, preserved thanks to the brick ceiling and side walls exposed during revitalization. An additional attraction may also be the Guido beer served in the pub, which is specially brewed by a regional brewery from Gliwice.
